Science! It's What's For Dinner

The following statements regarding science, facts, creation, and evolution were made by Christine O'donnell. She's a Senator. In Our Government. This means people actually supported her and found her to be a qualified voice of the American public.

Well, creationism, in essence, is believing that the world began as the Bible in Genesis says, that God created the Earth in six days, six 24-hour periods. And there is just as much, if not more, evidence supporting that.

Well, as the senator from Tennessee mentioned, evolution is a theory and it's exactly that. There is not enough evidence, consistent evidence to make it as fact, and I say that because for theory to become a fact, it needs to consistently have the same results after it goes through a series of tests. The tests that they put—that they use to support evolution do not have consistent results. Now too many people are blindly accepting evolution as fact. But when you get down to the hard evidence, it's merely a theory. But creation …

Now, he said that it's based on fact. I just want to point out a couple things. First of all, they use carbon dating, as an example, to prove that something was millions of years old. Well, we have the eruption of Mt. Saint Helens and the carbon dating test that they used then would have to then prove that these were hundreds of millions of years younger, when what happened was they had the exact same results on the fossils and canyons that they did the tests on that were supposedly 100 millions of years old. And it's the kind of inconsistent tests like this that they're basing their 'facts' on.

Evolution is a myth. Why aren’t monkeys still evolving into humans?

I Pledge Allegiance To My Own Stupidity

I used to think these were the two biggest morons I'd ever heard of:

But then I took a really closer look at the Family Leader pledge that all GOP candidates were asked to sign. The family leader is a non-profit organization of Evangelicals in Iowa who push the virtue of the 50s TV sitcom version of families.  I hadn't even heard of this at all until I read Gary Johnson's blog. Gary Johnson (who I am increasingly excited about) was the first to refuse to sign the pledge and actually called it "offensive." The above idiots were the first to jump aboard and sign. Of course. Considering their social views and comments each has made about homosexuality, religion, and family, it comes as no surprise.

Then I read the thing. You should take some time to do so youself right now if you haven't already. You can do that here.

Who the fuck is stupid enough to come up with such a document? How can you possibly discuss the fact that half of all first marriages and 60% of all remarriages end in divorce then state there is empirical evidence which shows married people have better health, sex, blah blah lies blah bullshit? Not to mention comments about slavery and the innocent fruit of conjugal intimacy...

This just goes to show how large the portion of Americans is who have not yet advanced past the days of Reefer Madness mentality. It's sad and ridiculously embarrassing to be associated with these low-class, narrow-minded freedom-haters.

It's time to get to work on this commune.

Intelligent By Design

Michele Bachman's definition of Natural Selection:  and natural selection is not the same thing as evolution. No one that I know disagrees with natural selection, that you can take various breeds of dogs... breed them, you get different kinds of dogs... It's just a fact of life... Where there's controversy is, Where do we say that a cell became a blade of grass, which became a starfish, which became a cat, which became a donkey, which became a human being? There's a real lack of evidence from change from actual species to a different type of species. That's where it's difficult to prove.

The ACTUAL definition of Natural Selection: The process whereby organisms better adapted to their environment tend to survive and produce more offspring. The theory of its action was first fully expounded by Charles Darwin and is now believed to be the main process that brings about evolution.

I'm not sure what you mean.

Can someone take her to the side every now and then and demand that she actually let them go over her speech for the evening? And please...while you're at it, make her go back the fuck to high school because apparently she didn't learn anything the first fucking time. Oh...and here's your answer to the whole creationism debate about the eye, Michele. Try to follow along.

Children Are Our Most Important Asset

This is disgusting in every conceivable way. This woman already has 2 children, ages 5 and 2. Her excuse for this? She needs to get herself together before she has more children. I don't think she ever should have had a child in the first place, and she damn sure shouldn't have "more" whether she gets it together or not. All the boyfriend can say is that he didn't know she was pregnant and it isn't his.

We have an infinite desire for valuable knowledge

That's why these priceless wells of knowledge were found in the bestsellers section of a Target in Tallahassee, Florida

The U.S. Military in general isn't that bad of a job....

I've heard people exclaim that one year of military service is equal to 3 years of stress compressed together... I found out the hard way by going into the Navy myself.  When I finally applied for VA benefits for medical and dental the VA made sure to send me my first piece of mail containing very important information.  They told me it's ok and I have someone to talk to.  Basically don't put that gun in your mouth because you've been through hell and got treated and paid like shit.

I'm pretty sure anyone who wants to kill themselves already know the warning signs.

You know, a good way to start making someone feel better about the shitty stuff they got screwed with during their time in is to actually spell their fucking name correctly.  My name is actually spelled as follows:  William Brandon Velez-Rivera.

You'd think they would have to actually look at a file with my fucking name on it and type it out correctly but they fucked that up.

As long as you have a Vagina, you don't have to worry...#what's awesome about our Judicial System

After repeated exclamations in my Facebook feed about who doesn't care about this case, I decided it was mandatory to attempt an explanation to the ignorant masses about why you should give a shit that this case ended the way it did.

At the end of May of this year, the Supreme Court ordered California to release 46,000 inmates to deal with its massive overcrowding problem. Currently, California has a mandatory life sentence sort of law which states that anyone convicted of a felony crime 3 times must spend the rest of their life behind bars. What does that mean exactly in idiot terminology? If you ride around with an ounce of weed and are caught 3 times, you will go to jail for life. You will be in prison with child molesters, rapists, those who plead guilty to lesser charges but who really committed 1st degree murder, and the list goes on. Would you be one of the required 46,000 prisoners to be released? Don't bet on it. Don't bet on even 23,000 prisoners being those who committed victimless crimes like drug offenses or prostitution. What will most likely happen as explained on foxnews is for actual criminals--rapists, molesters, violent offenders--to be released into the public so that California's population won't mind so much when it comes to paying higher taxes for more prisons to be built. And the stoner guy who got caught one too many times on the way home from his dealer's house will remain behind bars for life. And why? Prisons  are economical safe-bets. They bring in money. Always.

What's even worse is that child killers apparently don't warrant much time behind bars at all as we were shown by the verdict in the Casey Anthony trial today. The jury has decided this case wasn't proven beyond a reasonable doubt despite the  evidence against Anthony. One thing is for certain, if my child turned up in a bag with duct tape wrapped around her head, the last thing I would do is write I'm the happiest I've ever been in my diary.

Most of my peers don't seem to be bothered by this all that much nor does a good percentage of the American public...

I think we need to be a little more worried about what our judicial system is saying when drug offenders get chosen over baby killers to spend life in prison. The government wants you to be victimized. The government wants you to live in fear. The government gets what they want out of you that way. Start thinking for yourself.

We Focus on the Big Picture

Michele Bachmann is a fucking moron. There's no eloquent way to state this obvious fact.

I have to admit, though, if she didn't make so many ridiculous mistakes, I wouldn't have such a wonderful example to share.

On the kickoff day of her presidential campaign, Bachmann stated that John Wayne was from Waterloo, Iowa just as she is and that like Wayne, she is patriotic, loves this country, and stands up for the country (redundant much, Michele? fuck). The problem is that John Wayne is NOT from Waterloo. John Wayne Gacy is. Gacy is the serial killer who enjoyed torturing and killing boys then burying under his house.

My problem is that we focus on the wrong things. Who cares what sort of slip ups she makes in her speeches? Yes, she should really have someone go over every single speech with her, and it shows how unprepared and unorganized she truly is when she constantly makes these sort of mistakes. Yes, this sort of thing shows how ill-equipped she could be as president. (But, we elected George W, didn't we?)  What we really need to focus on, however, is how insane this woman is. She truly believes homosexuality is a mental disorder. She thinks allowing homosexual couples to enjoy the benefits of a legally recognized civil union would disrupt the family so much as to cause kindergartners to be forced to learn to be open to the idea of homosexuality. The big picture is that she would set this country back several decades. Let's soak that in and quit worrying so very much about every little flub she makes in her speeches. Listen to what this woman really says. Listen to her ideas on the issues. And realize that she is the last thing we need to right all the turmoil this country has been through since Bush Jr took office.

Instead, here in America, we tend to focus on all the little things we can use to mock or poke fun at someone so that elections become more about who sounds the smartest instead of who might actually be better for the nation.

Wake the fuck up, America.

We Are Completely Aware of Our Surroundings...especially at the local level

I'd like to think America didn't become such a powerful nation while its citizens lived in their own personal bubbles. The facts and the way I'd like to see things are completely different, however. Here's an example:

Most people have probably heard about the woman who drowned in a Massachusetts public pool with lifeguards on duty but who wasn't discovered until 2 days later....by kids who had broken into the pool for a late night swim.

There's some scientific reasons why her body wasn't discovered on Sunday night, Monday, or during the day on Tuesday. For one, bodies sink after drowning. She was on the bottom of a 12 foot section of the pool where she was last seen by the 9 year old child she collided with that day. The chlorine in the pool slowed down the decaying process, but it's this decay which causes the body to eventually float as it was doing Tuesday night when discovered by the kids who broke into the pool. Combined with the constant disruptions of the water's surface and the cloudiness of the water in general, people wouldn't have been able to see the body from the surface too well, and it would have looked like anyone else to those who weren't really paying attention. The motion of the water's surface would have caused the body to appear to move.

But, why did lifeguards ignore that 9 year old child when he informed them that someone might be in trouble? We're lifeguards, but we only save lives when we aren't on break? Right. That sounds like the American attitude I have come to loathe with every fiber of my being.

And, why aren't routine checks performed every night at closing? If the woman drowned without anyone's knowledge, fine. Fine. I doubt it, but for the sake of the rant I'm on, let's say it could happen. Why wouldn't a pool open to the public have a procedure in place which requires a full check of the pool at closing and upon opening? This would ensure the safety of other pool patrons. Let's think about how fucked up the people who went to that pool those days are going to be when they realize they went swimming with a decomposing body. Even with the chlorine, I wouldn't feel clean for a very long time. Maybe that's just me.

All in all, it's possible this woman would have died even if this pool had the top safety standards possible. It didn't. But, no matter what, if we cared more about the world around us instead of existing inside our own concerns even when we're in the job of saving lives, that woman would have been found much sooner than she was.
